My wife and I were in Chatham yesterday for a much needed day away. . . from everything. We had spent the night at a B&B in Yarmouthport and noticed a few paintings hanging in a small gallery that were done by a Julie Blanchard. Julie was one of my art teachers in high school some 40+ years ago. The inn keeper told me Julie was a member of an artists co-op on Cape Cod. I left her a brochure for Paint Misbehavin’ and told her to pass on my regards. A little while later we were walking down Main Street in Chatham and we bumped into Ms. Blanchard and another artist. We all had a nice conversation and went on our ways.
It was very cool to run into her after all these years and be able to say that we were both still doing what we love. Painting!
Now if I can just keep painting and somehow end up on the Cape : )
We are so excited about a few special events that we have scheduled for the summer (so far!) We hope you will join us!
Monday, May 19 – @ River Rock Grill in Maynard. We are excited to partner with a great local restaurant for a “painting night.” We are using a smaller canvas for a 2 hour class at a special price. If you are looking for something fun to do to kick off the week, please join us!
Friday, June 27 – We are proud to host a fundraiser for New England Ataxia Foundation. Please join us for a fun night to support this important cause. We are debuting a brand new painting for this event! You can read about the event on our calendar page.
Saturday July 19 – Calling all animal lovers! Please come out and help us support the German Shepherd Rescue of New England. This organization does great work to save and find homes for dogs that might otherwise be destroyed.
We are excited about a few special events that are coming up soon. First, our second fundraiser for Andrew’s Helpful Hands is coming up this Saturday, February 8. This is such a wonderful organization and we had so much fun at the last event we hosted for them. We are looking forward to another successful event and the opportunity to continue to help the families of sick children.
On Sunday, February 23 we are having our second “Mommy & Me” event. Parents/grandparents can bring in their children (minimum age 3 years) and spend some creative time together painting the child’s name on canvas and decorating the painting. Our artist will sketch out the name in advance.
Speaking of children, we have scheduled some daytime classes for children during the week of February 17-21 for school vacation. We’ve tried to accommodate various schedules by starting the classes at different times on different days. We hope to see lots of kids in the studio during the week!
Finally, on March 1 we are featuring our first 2-person painting. Our Irish Coast painting was designed for 2 people. Each person paints one side, then you hang them next to each other to complete the picture. The beauty of this painting is that either side could also stand on its own as a complete painting, so it does not have to be a couples thing.
More information about all of these events is available on our calendar. We look forward to seeing you in the studio!
We hosted our first fundraiser last night and I think it was a rousing success! We had a packed studio and with the help of everyone who participated, we donated $833 to Andrew’s Helpful Hands to help a local family with a child going through a bone marrow transplant. We are so grateful to everyone for their support.
You can view more photos from the event on our Facebook page (Paint Misbehavin’ Painting Parties). Don’t forget to “Like” us while you’re there!
We took the night off from the studio last night to see one of our favorite musical artists. Grace Kelly is 21 years old (young) and an amazing jazz saxophonist. She is the epitome of the song “Amazing Grace”! Coincidentally, she performed that song last night, and in a way that it has probably never been done before. It was truly amazing. We first saw Grace several years ago when she was still a student at Berklee. It is hard to explain how good she is, but if you think about the fact that she performed at Scullers at the ripe old age of 13, you may get an idea of her talent. She is originally from the Boston area (Brookline, I think) but recently moved out to the west coast. Whenever she comes back to Boston she is a must-see for us. If you like jazz, or even if you’re just curious about seeing crazy-talented people, we highly recommend seeing Grace Kelly if given the opportunity!

We spent our day off from the studio today on Spectacle Island, taking pictures to use as reference photos for new paintings.
If you are not familiar with Spectacle Island in the Boston Harbor Islands, we highly recommend you check it out! The Boston Harbor Islands are a hidden jewel that lots of people surprisingly still aren’t familiar with. Spectacle Island is the highest point in the harbor, built up with dirt from the big dig.
The 360-degree view of the city and all the other islands from the top of Spectacle is simply breathtaking. Keep an eye on our gallery for new paintings from this spectacular vantage point!
